Anna Maria Island Fishing Report

Capt. Matt Ercoli
February 25, 2014
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Anna Maria Island Fishing Report

As I said a few days ago in my fishing report, Tampa Bay flats fishing was about to explode and I would have to say it did over this past weekend. As water temps on the flats soared to the mid 70's the last few afternoons, so did the fishing. From here on out we should have very strong flats fishing.

Redfish are everywhere; we caught a lot of Reds in many different locations ranging from 22 to 32 inches. The Reds I have been finding are really hungry and jumping on live shiners. From what I am seeing I think it's going to be a good Redfish year. I hear that from a lot of other captains as well. The Redfish are everywhere.

Trout fishing is equal as good and it has been for a few weeks now. It really seems that with rising water temps they are really ramping up fast. Over the past few days I caught big Trout everywhere, even in spots that I wasn't even targeting them. Some are trophies and our largest was a 27 incher.

The Snook fishing really just started getting good on Sunday. Sunday we caught a few and the largest was a 35 incher and broke off another one close that size and caught some smaller ones as well. Sunday as the water temp climbed more we caught Snook all day long, the largest just shy of 38 inches, along with another around 32 with lots of Snook between 23 and 28 inches.

Fishing is going to be really good this week, definitely something to look forward to. Leaving in my boat at 5:30 each morning to catch fresh bait before meeting my fishermen is always a lot easier when I know we are going to have a great day of fishing.

Hope you have enjoyed the report. See you on the water.
