Anna Maria Island Mar 2 Fishing Report

Capt. Matt Ercoli

Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Anna Maria Island March 2 Fishing Report

Wow, what a couple of days make. The weather has turned for the better and the 10 day forecast is sunny everyday and in the 70's; it may even get into the 80's a few days. We had decent fishing this past week, but we had to work for it with the cold, windy and foggy weather. We still made it happen though. We even landed a Snook just shy of 40 inches a couple days ago. With the dramatic weather change, working for our fish will be a thing of the past. We will be killing them this week. Water temps on the flats are staying in the 70s and should be stable for quite a while. Snook fishing is going to be explosive. We should be having some days this week with better than 50 Snook trips.
Trout fishing has been solid for larger fish. It should be even better this week, although it may be hard to beat the Trout fishing I have been having this winter. There is a ton of Trout around the 16 to 20 inch range with a few larger. We should get some jumbos this week on the shallow flats mixed in with the Snook.
The Redfishing has been slow, but it should pick up from here after a few more days of warm weather. It won't be long before we are killing the Reds in shallow water.
Offshore the Grouper and Snapper bite has been pretty good. It will pick up with the warming weather, especially the larger fish. There have been reports of Kingfish to the south, another week or two and we should be hitting them too.
So that about raps it up. Snook fishing will be a killer this week and I can't wait. Here is a picture of the Snook ( https://twitter.com/captmattercoli )we caught a few days ago on that last cold blustery day, what a nice way to say goodbye to winter.
If you are looking to get out Tarpon fishing this summer, you should let me know soon.
Catch you on the water,
