Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tis the season for change here at Tampa fishing charters. Its hot one day and the following morning I have to bundle up like the Michelin man.
On the water this translates to the fish being on the open flats when it's warm, and hiding in the creeks and canals when it is cold. Find one fish and you will find them all.
This is the time of year when the variety of species is staggering. Usually I target mainly tarpon, snook and redfish, but in the fall its also cobia, spanish, pompano, trout, black drum and sheepshead. Let me not forget my favorite big jack crevalle. Pound for pound these guys are the hardest fighting fish that swims and LOVE top water plugs. I will take a 10 lb jack over a 30 inch snook anyday.

I have been mainly throwing top water plugs all day. I love the bite and it's extremely productive for searching. My favorite is the original Super Spook in bone or mullet. Snook, trout, jacks, and even redfish fall victim to its sound and profile.
