Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The water temperature in Tampa Bay has dropped quickly due to a significant cold front that swept through the area recently. Fishing will change a bit as a result of this front. Live bait might be tougher to catch and some fish won't bite it. When this happens, we start looking for warmer water temperatures to fish in.

The fish should start moving around in search for warmer water. If the water temperature gets extremely cold, we will have to start fishing the rivers with lures or shrimp. The lure of my choice is MirrOlure. When the water temperatures are low, I particularly like using a jerk bait. The Lil John Twitch bait any color bait on quarter ounce jig head is great, Golden Bream is my favorite color to use. However, as long as we can keep finding warmer water on the flats and the mouths of the rivers, we will keep fishing for snook and redfish in these areas with live bait.

The reefs in the Bay for grouper and snapper have been productive. If the water temperature drops below 60 degrees, you can still fish the reefs, you will just need to use shrimp as bait. The good things about using shrimp while fishing in cold water is that the sheepshead will start biting. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today.
