Cold and Windy -- Again

Capt. Fred Everson
February 5, 2009
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

I just looked at the thermometer on my porch that overlooks the mouth of the Little Manatee River. It's 33.5 degrees. That might do for a nice day of ice fishing in northern Vermont, but is totally unacceptable for West Central Florida, so I will leave the fish alone for a few days.

Water temperature is hanging out in the high 50's and I can't think of anything that will feed inshore when it's this cold. Maybe the sheepshead will bite, but I will leave that for more intrepid anglers to find out.

It looks like it's going to warm up for the weekend and the wind is going to lay down a bit. I won't be fishing this weekend however, as I will be doing seminars at the Florida Sportsman show in Fort Myers. Hope to see you there.

More Fishing Reports:

Sight fishing for a variety of species on Tampa Bay's Soutshore. Two anglers fish primarily with aritficials (occasionally we throw live shrimp and cut bait -- no sardines).
