Cooling Water = Action

Capt. Steven Markovich
September 8, 2008
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sunday was an excursion to say the least as we ran 66 miles in total. Running to the Tampa bay Eastside we found Mackerel abundant in the main ship channel. Clark spoons as always was the hot ticket with many numerous hook ups. Tony from Mercedes was onboard and was amazed by the speed of these feisty game fish. Remember to retrieve the spoon rapidly; you can never out pace a Mackerel. Storms the previous weeks which kept fisherman home were now out in full force Sunday. The usual bait towers were covered with boats fishing rather than cast netting bait. Our first stop had 5 boats fishing the tower; it looked like Boca Grande during a Tarpon Tournament.

Common sense prevailed and we ran down to the Skyway Bridge and found beautiful white baits very abundant, the net was so heavy I needed assistance dragging the net onboard.

Fat trout eagerly attacked our baits; we are taking these fish in deeper water 6-8'. DOA Glo shrimp, MirrOlure's MirrOdine 17MR and live shrimp are also productive.

Saturday first mate Chris and I visited the Tampa Boat show, amazing displays with boats for every angler. We had the pleasure of meeting Joe from XXX. I always am looking for new and exciting fishing shirts. A boat passed us closely in a canal and those on the other boat complimented Chris on his shirt. Great images, colors and quality be sure and check them out at http://www.naclh2osports.com/

Great cause September 13. Anglers from all over will convene to Ruskin's Inn at Little Harbor for Bolesta Center's Third Annual "Get Hooked" Fishing Tournament on Saturday, September 13, 2008. The tournament will feature six hours of the best flats fishing Tampa Bay has to offer, with inshore catch-and-release for redfish, snook and trout.
