Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Most Tampa anglers spend their days off from work pursuing what is known as Tampa Bay's inshore grand slam. A grand slam is when an angler manages to land redfish, snook and trout all in the same day. These three species provide excellent sport and pretty good table fare, but let me enlighten you to another type of Tampa inshore slam, I like to call it the delicious slam. Im talking about mangrove snapper, flounder and pompano; Man, it just dosen't get any better than that!

Don't get me wrong I'm all about the sport and I was raised up eating redfish, snook and trout, but if your fishing for grocereries its all about the delicious slam!

The mangrove snapper bite has been good inshore and even better around the full moon. Small white bait and a chum bag is all you will need when you anchor up to your favorite snapper hole.

The flounder have been of good size this year. We have been landing mini-mats in the 15-20 inch range on rock and oyster bottom. flounder fishing has been productive in the backcountry, flats and reefs. Fish a white bait or shrimp on a jig, drag along the bottom for best results. If it's that big doormat you want, try a big pinfish, big bait catches big fish!

Pompano have been all over the Bay's markers. Doc Goody type jigs have been getting it done. Just get it to the bottom and pompano on!

Till next time have a quality day on the water!
