Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's hot, and I'm not just talking about the weather. Fishing in the Tampa Bay area has been awesome. I have been fishing mostly in the Bay, and have been catching some great fish. While fishing for tarpon, we've also caught grouper and cobia. The tarpon have been temperamental as usual. Some days you can't keep them off your bait and others you couldn't snag a fish if you wanted to. However, we've been able to jump a tarpon or two everyday.

Catching a 45 lb cobia on 10 lb test tackle is great fun, and that is just what we did last week while trout fishing. It took over 30 minutes to get this great fish to the boat, and that was after I pulled the anchor and chased the fish down. The cobia sure did put up a great fight. We've also caught grouper that were pushing the 30 inch mark. That is a nice grouper, especially when it is in the Bay.

If it's sharks you want to catch then plan your trip now! Tampa Bay is full of them right now.

Although we haven't done much fishing for redfish and snook lately, the days we've put some time in, we've caught some nice ones. It is hard to keep bait alive in the morning on the flats this time of year, so redfishing is at its best in the afternoons.

If you're looking for a good bite in the Bay, and a fish to take home for dinner, the trout is your fish. Trout fishing has been phenomenal. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
