End Of March Fishing Report For Anna Maria Island

Capt. Matt Ercoli

Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Anna Maria March Fishing Report

Hello from Anna Maria Island where the fishing has been awesome. Things have really started to pick up in these parts; pretty much if it lives in our waters its biting. The weather has been hard to beat as well.

Inshore the Trout, Redfish and Snook have been biting. Yes I said Snook. We had one day we caught 25 Snook in an hour and a half. Pretty good despite their low numbers, it is promising though and we are catching more than last year.

Red fishing is picking up. Bait fish are starting to storm the flats and the Reds are beginning to feed on them. I think this week will be a good week for them. We have had some up to 33 inches and I think we are going to see a lot more.

Trout fishing is good especially for the bigger ones. We have had a lot In the 18 to 22 inch range this past week. The largest have been about 24 inches. I haven't had any to rival that 28 and a half inch trout we had a couple of weeks ago but I'm sure we will be fishing over ones that large and larger this week.

Pompano are on the beach and in the bay and we have been catching a few big ones while fishing for Trout.

Offshore fishing has been good as well. Permit has been my primary target. The largest one we caught was in the 35 to 40 pound class. We have had a few others over 25 pounds. Permit are awesome fighters, one of my very favorite fish to chase.

Grouper and Snapper are also biting great offshore. There are lots of Mackerel offshore as well as inshore. Cobia is starting to show up inshore and offshore. Amberjacks are biting good further out.

Kingfish should be thick any day now; there are a few out there already.

There are also plenty of resident Tarpon on the bite.

Well that's it for this week. I have just a few Tarpon charters available; remember May 1 till about the third week of July is the very best.
