Fall action Tampa Bay

Capt. Steven Markovich
September 30, 2010
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fall is slowly descending on Tampa Bay. Mornings are noticeably cooler with less humidity. Waters temperatures in Tampa Bay are in the low 80's ands soon will edge into the magical 70's.

The Redfish action should remain outstanding for over the slot bruisers until the full moon of November. Work Mangrove islands, oyster bars and grass flats with access to the Gulf. White baits under a float on 3' of 20 pound fluorocarbon leader is all you need. I have witnessed numerous anglers scoring on jerk baits and gold spoons. And while I am not a fly fishing expert I have seen fly fishers scoring also.

Snook action perked up for Captain Steven along Mangroves Islands mid Tampa Bay. Chumming white baits on the high outgoing tides did the trick. Many of my go to snook holes are void from last years freeze. I have worked extremely hard with lots of scouting to find several areas producing. Hundreds of hours on the water scouting has paid off.

Bonita and mackerel are thick is the ship channel and along the beaches. White baits on long shank hooks or Silver spoons are almost a guarantee when you locate schools. Birds give away the bait which is being chased from below to the surface. When you see the action stay calm, position yourself up current and drift into the frenzy. Repeat until your arms are tired!

Cobia, Tarpon, Trout, Snapper, Flounder and numerous other species on the inshore scene.
