Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
WOW! More fish are currently in Tampa Bay than I have seen in awhile. Amount…awesome! Size…. Awesome! There are redfish galore, plenty of tarpon, and no shortage of snook.
Until last week, not only the numbers of redfish we were catching was on the decline, but the size of the redfish we were catching was going down as well thanks to the hellacious wind and the full moon. The fish moved off the flats into the Gulf, but now they are back on the flats, and we've been catching great numbers of good sized fish. Of course these redfish can be hard to find during their transition time, but when you do find them, they eat well.
We haven't had any problems catching snook while fishing for redfish lately. When catching snook, the redfish seem to push their way into the bite. There is nothing bad about your snook bite turning red.
If you like to fish for a species to keep, trout is your fish. There are plenty of trout in our area. Also, grouper fishing is great. We've mostly caught the grouper while fishing for tarpon in the Bay. With the water temperature dropping it's not a surprise the grouper are biting well.
Despite occasional days with poor bait or bunk tides, tarpon are still in the area. Tarpon fishing has been great. There haven't been many days that we haven't been able to catch a few tarpon, or at least, put a few in the air. We've been catching some awesome fish. Don't forget… the sharks are still around.
