First Major Cold Front - Tampa Bay Fishing Report

Capt. John Rivers
October 22, 2016
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tampa Bay Inshore Fishing Report
Our first major cold front hit us and I'm excited because it will definitely fire off the trout and other species. Since it dropped to the middle 50's overnight it will drop the water temp just a bit, so it will take a day or two for the fish to adjust. Redfish are showing up in the middle of Tampa Bay near Picnic and up in old Tampa Bay. I've also done very well with Mangrove Snapper in a few of my honey holes.

During this cold front look for the trout bite to get better in depths from 4-6 ft of water; top-water and soft plastics are my choice of baits when it comes to fishing for trout.
The snook bite has been outstanding at night due to the super moon last week, but as it gets later in the month, the daytime bite should pick back up.

Over in St. Joseph Sound, the redfish bite and trout bite has been very good. Snook are staging up in the passes and near a few of the bridges.

I'm going to keep this report brief. I'll write up a new report in 10 days to let you know what's been going on and what November is going to have in store for us.
Thanks for stopping by, have a happy Halloween. Go catch a pumpkin (AKA - BIG REDFISH).
