Big Fish Everywhere

Capt. Sean Goddard
May 18, 2015
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tampa Bay is chock full of scaled sardines and threadfins. Bait is everywhere and so are the fish that chew on them.

Spanish Mackerel can be found anywhere from deeper grass flats up to the shipping lane and skyway bridge. The kings are cruising the shipping lanes near the Skyway bridge as well as off the beaches.

Tarpon season is HERE ! Big fish are plentiful and seem to be all over. I have seen them rolling on the flats, at the bridges, off the beaches and in the passes. They are hungry and agressive crabs and large threadfins live or dead are getting the job done

Giant snook have invaded the flats and bridges and are preparing to head offshore for the spawn. Look for large groups of big females and smaller males staging up ten or twenty yards from the mangroves and near bridge pilings. Many fish over 40 inches have been caught the past couple of weeks. Live and cut baiot are wiorking equally as well to land a giant.

Redfish are plentiful and are everywhere in the bay. Whitebait. cut bait and shrimp are all productive and over slot fish seem to be the norm right now. For those of you that prefer to use artificial baits a chartreuse jig head with white shad body or paddle tail has been producing some impressive fish.

Mangrove snapper fishing is hot, it seems they are everywhere We are catching mostly keeper sized fish in the 12 to 15 inch range on whitebait and large shrimp free lined near the mangroves, on the flats or near structure.

Trout fishing hot right now in 3-5 feet of water. Smaller fish up to keeper size can still be found on deeper grass flats with fish averaging 18 inches. Live jumbo shrimp either free lined or under a popping cork is producing impressive numbers of fish.
