Great Fishing on Tampa Bay

Capt. Woody Gore
December 2, 2009
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

When one species slows down another picks up. While snook and redfish are still eating, they seem to be doing it on live greenbacks. You can still still catch them on shrimp... (everything eats shrimp) but I seem to have better luck on greenies. Kept moving around the other day until I found a group of reds willing to eat and it was gangbusters for almost an hour.

If you're looking for some drag screaming action the bay is still full of giant Spanish Mackerel and huge ladyfish. Ran an afternoon trip last Saturday and had a ball on big Spanish. Then just as we started to wind down the client stuck a 100+ pound tarpon on a light tackle mackerel rig. Needless to say we did not land it but chased and fought it for almost 30 minutes.
