Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
Redfish, Snook, and trout have all been very active and feeding well during the pre-front portions of these cold snaps.
Bait as expected has been difficult to acquire without making a trip down to the skyway piers, where it has been abundant and good sized.
Redfish are feeding well on shrimp, whitebait and soft plastics and are slot sized. There are plenty of fish along the south shore of Tampa Bay and can be found in the usual places.
Trout are good sized and very aggressive in the morning with most of the fish in the 18-20 inch range being caught on top water lures or Cajun thunder rigs with a live shrimp or pilchard as bait.
Snook are feeding pretty well although this cool weather has slowed the bite a bit. You can still get them to eat a pilchard in the later part of the day once it warms up a bit.
The sheephead bite has been great with lots of keeper sized fish being taken. They seem to be everywhere and we are catching our limits in no time. In my opinion one of the best eating fish out there.
Mangrove snapper and flounder are still around and some keeper sized fish are going home with clients.
