Incredible action Tampa Bay

Capt. Steven Markovich
April 9, 2011
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Captain Steven could talk about today's incredible action for hours! Our trip started getting bait which was a breeze. Beautiful white baits are thick along the Skyway Bridge and took only 2 tosses of my 12' 3/8" cast net. With the live well full we headed to the St. Pete Beach area.

I hooked the first baitfish and before I could bait the second rod it was fish on!

The free lined white bait was crushed within seconds. Before I could de hook the 3 pound mackerel another rod began to scream. Over and over again big Spanish Mackerel 3-5 pounds inhaled our baits.

Our first Kingfish slammed a large white bait on the surface just yards from the boat. The 25 pounder ran 100 yards in seconds! A very large shark got into the mix then the line went slack. All we got back was shredded 50 pound leader. At one time we had a hooked mackerel being chased by a 25 pound kingfish chased by 200 pound shark.

Next up we had a 8-10 pound kingfish get attacked by a much bigger King. The picture tells the story.

Dave's free lined bait had worked its way to the bottom resulting in a big hit. 15 minutes later Dave landed a beautiful Grouper.

Then Dave's rod went nuts with 5' of shark. Dave fought the monster for 10 minutes before it broke lose.

We decided to change gears and look for trout and redfish. Moving to a grass flat we took to several chunky trout to 19" and hooked two redfish approximately 25" but both came undone.
