LATE SUMMER FISHING IN TAMPA BAY HAS BEEN AWESOME!

Capt. TJ Stewart
August 9, 2010
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The late summer bite is on! Over the past few weeks, fishing has been great. The water temperature and tides have changed, and the fish really seem to like it. Fishing has been so good that on numerous days, it's been almost impossible to keep fish away from the bait.

Tarpon fishing has been outstanding! With as many tarpon that were around in May and June, I knew that the bite was going to stay great throughout the rest of summer and fall. I get asked what time of year is best for tarpon fishing frequently, and my answer is late summer and early fall. The size of the tarpon we've caught lately range in size from day to day, but for the most part, they have been 50 lbs to 125 lbs.

Snook, snook, and snook! I've been doing more fishing for snook, and have had great success. A few days last week, we caught over 20 snook, which is great with a water temperature that is over 80 degrees. We certainly did lose many snook last winter, but I think they are going to come back over the next couple of years. Fall snook fishing is usually good so don't forget to book your trip.

Redfish catching has been good. There are a few really big schools of fish in the area. They have been a little hard to catch at times, but if you put a little time in, it can be done. We have had some great mixed bag fishing lately. We have caught trout, snook, and snapper just to name a few while fishing for redfish.

Trout are producing great action. The trout bite has been phenomenal, and this time of the year, there are many areas holding lots of fish on some of the outer bars. Trout fishing always makes for great fun. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
