March Snook Madness

Capt. John Rivers
March 7, 2019
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

March Madness usually means Basketball, but here in Tampa Bay it means the snook bite is on. This week we're hopefully having our last cold front, and it's going to drop down into the lower 40's, but that's ok, because it's going to keep the water temps right where they need to be to keep the bite going strong like it has been over the past two weeks. The Snook bite has been so good that I've had 50 + Snook days and that's no fish tale. The bite's been crazy good for snook, and the redfish have been chewing as well. On my last few trips, we've boated some nice redfish, with the biggest right around 36 inches.

Let's switch gears a minute and talk about Sheepshead some; this year I thought the sheepshead bite was going to be exceptional, but with the warmer temps in February, it's not been as good as it usually is in February, but this cold front might be just what we need to fire off the sheepies to spawn and let us catch a few for dinner.

So, what can you expect if you're heading to Tampa Bay/Tarpon Springs to fish with me? Expect lots of bent rods, lots of snook, plenty of reds, and a sufficient amount of trout.
If you're heading to Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, or Tarpon Springs and would like to experience a professional inshore fishing trip, you've come to the right place. With over 21 years fishing the gulf coast and 17 years guiding professionally, I can assure you that you're in good hands.
