Mega redfish day Tampa Bay

Capt. Steven Markovich
September 18, 2010
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Blitzing is common for Mackerel, Bluefish, Bonita but not Redfish. Today was one of those phenomenal days that happens once in awhile. More in a minute.

Today I had the distinct pleasure of having to super redfish anglers onboard. Dave & Jim are not strangers to chasing redfish and love it each fall when the big bronze bombers arrive.

The day started like many trips gathering bait. As the sun peaked over the horizon I started chumming and in short order the white baits and pinfish arrived. Once the live well was full with white baits for fishing and chumming we made the short run to a gorgeous grass flat off Ft. Desoto.

With a pesky north east wind it was impossible to see redfish pushing water. We had to look for red water and it didn't take long. One, two, three a triple header of redfish over 30"s started the day.

The redfish chased and inhaled white baits as fast as they hit the water!

In 3 hours we had 9 triple headers.

Over under and around we all went as these bruisers screamed dragged and ran around the boat. We targeted 3' of water so using a float to keep the baits out of the grass was essential.

We also scored numerous chunky trout to 20".
