Monster Blue Marlin to Snook

Capt. Steven Markovich
June 11, 2009
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

My friends Randy and Rich at Start me up Charters in Maui landed a monster Blue Marlin last week measuring 13.5' weighing in at 774 pounds.

The giant Blue Marlin was hooked while running the 100 fathom ledge. The fight lasted over 6 hours! If you get to Maui be sure and book a charter with Randy and Rich at www.sportfishingmaui.com. They run a quality operation.

More exciting reports as Capt. Little Jim Fesperman reported decent beach snook action on lower Tampa Bay beaches. Captain Jim reports you have to get on these snook early before the beach crowds show up. Jim has his clients tossing white baits to within 5' of the sand working the very first swash channel. Capt. Jim spoke to wading anglers who reported they took over 50 snook near the top of high tide.

The BIG Redfish semi top secret hole has slowed, we took several reds all over 30" last weekend but I have 2 reports of no action there Tuesday and Wednesday. Snook after dark and daytime on Tampa Bays lower eastern shoreline has been solid all week. White baits and pinfish have been the bait of choice. We did not take any big snook this week but these young male snook 20-25" made for some great action. We have also seen an increase in Jacks taking these amazing fighters to 8 pounds. Mackerel seem to have disappeared inside Tampa Bay, look for these speedsters to return soon.

Capt. Billy Nobles of the Reel Animals TV and Radio shows reported some amazing beach Tarpon action in Boca Grande with 23 Tarpon hooked on a single charter! Captain Billy went on to say he has never seen this many Tarpon in all his years of experience.

I have all received some less than stellar reports. Another Captain a season veteran had the big goose egg this week. That's why it's fishing and not called catching. What's the old saying a bad day of fishing is better than a day in the office?
