Monster Redfish

Capt. Steven Markovich
May 2, 2009
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Monster Redfish we ended Fridays trip were waiting for us the next morning. The first cast was quickly inhaled by a 30" + Redfish. This was repeated over and over with Redfish ranging from 28" to 32". This size redfish is a big battle on 7.5' medium heaving spinning rods, typical fish took 10 minutes to land. One stop for bait at 6:30 then one stop for redfish starting at 7:30 and the party was over shortly after nine. Aching arms and happy anglers said lets go home we can't top this.
The afternoon I had a special angler onboard, my wife Jackie AKA the Admiral. Jackie wanted to see firsthand this amazing Monster redfish action. Two casts and Jackie was into another BIG redfish, check out the image you can see she had her hands full!

10-15 minutes later she was posing with a beautiful 33" 11.5 Pound redfish.

Next cast Jackie was once again had her hands full of 10 pounds of redfish. Jackie looked at me and said I had enough I'm going to sit and read my book. Reds this size are bulldogs making big heads shacks and powerful runs. White baits and pinfish connected to 1/0 hooks backed with 30 pound fluorocarbon leaders.

Today was without a doubt one of those magical days. These monster reds were feeding with abandon. Twice on consecutive casts we had double headers where the big reds took two of our baits and the same time. Amazing sight looking at 2 hooks in one mouth. Guess where tomorrow's trip will start!
