As Good as it Gets - Bottom Fishing on Fire

Capt. Pedro Borrego
July 23, 2013
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well, I have to say, it doesn't get any better than this. Bottom fishing has been on fire for us lately. Gag grouper season opened on July 1st and we have been putting a hurting on the grouper population. Our clients have filling their freezers with both gag grouper and red grouper.

While out in gulf on our bottom fishing trips, you can also expect to catch mangrove snapper, gray snapper, cobia and porgies. Nearer the surface, we are still finding some kingfish. Bonitas can also be found on the troll, but the best catching right now is hands down bottom fish for grouper and snapper.

The bottom action can be at a variety of depths from 35 ft. to over 100 ft. The bigger the ledge, the bigger the grouper. Live bait also the #1 bait for these tackle busters.
