100 Redfish Sunday Tampa Bay

Capt. Steven Markovich
January 16, 2011
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Amazing best describes this mornings redfish action. In 3 hours I took over 100 redfish with 2 other boats taking similar totals!

What a difference a day makes! I felt so bad for my anglers from Saturdays they would have loved this action.

The redfish were schooled up in 7' of 55 degree water tight to a deep under cut against a Mangrove Island. Tampa Bay has numerous rivers that empty into Tampa Bay that are home to many snook, redfish, trout, sheepshead and flounder.

I started with live shrimp cast up current and as soon as the bait got near the bottom it was game on. My mentor and good friend Captain Billy Nobles of Reel Animals had a charter so I made a quick call and invited him to join the fun.

Billy had 2 really nice guys on board, we were very close so we were able to banter back and forth, share a joke and of course talk fishing. I had the pleasure of meeting Poker Star Hoyt Corkins better known as the Alabama Cowboy on Poker Stars.

I changed gears and started casting DOA CAL jerk baits which scored Reds on every cast! Next I switched to the new MirrOlure Mirrordine heavy which scored on every cast! The Reds were all 18"and under, the boat up current did manage a 23" and 25" along with a the juvenile reds.
