Tampa Bay Fishing Report

Capt. TJ Stewart
June 21, 2004
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Is it Snook,Redfish,orTarpon

Well this week the Snook fishing was really good. We had more than one day where we caught over 30 Snook. This time of the year the Snook are spawning and most of the fish are grouped in pretty big schools. If you can catch a few Snook there is probably a lot more Snook close by. Most of the fish are 20-25 inches and are a lot of fun on the light tackle. But there are big fish mixed in The Snook of the week was a 31 inch Snook. I don’t even want to tell you about the big one that got away or I should say the big ones that got way just about evey day but it wouldn’t be a good day of fishing if you didn’t have the story about the big one that got away!

Then we have the Trout. This week we had some really nice fish we caught a lot of fish over 18 inch which is a really nice Trout. If you are looking for some fish to eat there is nothing wrong with some Trout. The Trout of the week was a 23 inch fish We caught a few that were all in that same range. I can tell you one thing I have had more luck with a little cloud cover.

The Red fish this week was a good start and a real good finish it was all about the tides but it is starting to get to the point were we can catch Red fish all day long not just on the tides but the tides do help. Each day we caught 10-15 Red fish . The Red fish of the week was a 30 inch fish.

I can tell you we have more then one story about the big one that got away. This week we had some really nice Tarpon and we boated or leadered a few nice fish. This week most of our fish for Tarpon started back in the bay, unless it was an afternoon trip or even just a little later in the morning, then we moved or went to the beach. We had a few good days on the beach. The Tarpon of the week was a 100 lb Silver king.

Cast Away Charters specialize in fishing the bountiful waters of Florida’s Tampa Bay area. Charters depart from the shadow of the Sunshine Skyway in the Bradenton & Palmetto – on Tampa Bay’s southern shores. Capt. TJ Stewart has the knowledge and intuition to find and hook the big ones – the battle will be up to you. Imagine the thrill and the power felt when a two hundred pound tarpon breaches the surface of the sky blue waters of Tampa Bay attempting to cast away the hook from his mouth. The
