First Snook!

Well were do I start. It’s getting to be the time of the year when the fish start doing a whole lot of moving. If and when all these fish are moving all around you can usually find them in large numbers and if you are able to entice them to eat you will catch big numbers.

We are going to start with the Red fish. It was some good fishing last week. We had a few different days where we got the Red fish in a good frenzy. We did good on either the high tide or the real low tide. The mid tide was a little slower with the Red fish bite. But with the higher water we were fishing up in the mangrove and with the low water we were fishing out off the edge of the bars that surround the same flats that we catch the fish on the high tide. We had a few days that we caught over 25 Red fish in a short amount of time. The Red fish of the week was a 27 inch Red.

The Snook fish was just as good if not sometimes a little better. A lot of the Snook that we caught where in the same areas that we were catching our Red fish. Sometimes the Red fish would bite then suddenly we would catch a few Snook and the other way around. We had a lot of great Snook caught last week, but as you can see in the picture we had one really great Snook. The young man that caught this fish said that it was one of the biggest Snook that he has ever caught. I think it was the 5th or 6th Snook that he caught and the 5 before that where caught a few minutes before this great fish. Any how it was a big fish 32 ½ in. And to make it even better this was the first time he ever caught Snook. This fish put up a great fight.

With the cooler weather we have had a few mornings where the fish for the Snook and Red fish has been slow. So almost in the same areas where we catch the Red fish and Snook we have been catching a lot of Flounder. We had a few real nice flounder that were pushing the 20 inch mark.
