Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Before the cold!

Well here we go it is trying to start cooling down. It has not changed too much yet the biggest thing that we have had trouble with is the wind as these fronts have been moving through. It sounds like this next front is going to be a pretty good one so we will see if it is going to hurt the fishing at all. I know it did not hurt it over the past week.

I will start with the Trout no we have not been fishing for them this past week but you know how that goes not try to catch them and you do. This past week each trip that we have fished we have caught some nice Trout pushing 18 inches. Where were they last week when we needed them. Well that is why they call it fishing. Once the water temp starts dropping the Trout fishing will start picking back up.

Then I will go to the Snook fishing. These fish have been going crazy. These fish are eating very good before the winter. We have found some big schools which on the lower tides these fish have been hanging on the outer edge of the bar then on the higher water they spend their time closer to the mangroves. But in either place with the help of a lot of chum we have been able to catch big numbers of fish. We have had some really nice fish this past week. The Snook of the week was a 32 inch fish.

Well we found some really great Red fish this past week. With the lower tides these fish like the Snook push off the edge of the bars on the lower tides and this is when they are usually easier to catch. The places to look for these Red fish on the lower tides are where the flats fall off into big white holes on the end of the flats or they can sometimes be in the middle. This is were these fish will wait on the edge for the bait to come from the grass going across the sand. We have managed to catch some Red fish each trip but one of the last days of the week we really got them going crazy I don’t even know how many Red fish to tell you we caught but we had some really nice fish. The Red fish of the week was a 34 inch Red fish one of the biggest in awhile.

Well last but not least we have the Jacks if you a looking for some fun these fish are moving up the rivers this time of year. Find some structure to fish around in the river like a dock or pilings as you can see we have had some nice fish up in the river..
