Tampa Bay Fishing Report

Capt. TJ Stewart
July 23, 2006
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Supper grand slam!

It’s a little warm but the fishing is going off. Keep reading and you will get to see a day of a lifetime! Not that all the trips that we have had lately have not made some great memories for just about everyone. This was just a really neat day. The fishing over all has been great.

Starting this off with the Red fish this bite has still been a little slow, well that is just some days. We have managed to catch some great fish over this past week but some days we have had to work a little. Most of the fish that we have been catching have been in the slot this means that they are 18-27 inches. Which if you are looking for a fish to bring home for dinner this is a pretty good one. But I will go back to the fish of the week which was a 33 inch fish. Man on that light tackle what a fight!.

Then let’s go to the Snook almost one of the best bites out of all the fish we have been catching. Like I said in the past reports most of these fish are around the passes and channels. One of the most important things is the tides. These can be a big factor if these fish want to bite or not. You get a good moving tide and find the right pass its almost a guarantee you can catch a few fish. Most of the time with the good moving tides that we have had in our area we have had no trouble getting these great Snook into a frenzy and catch a good number of fish. I can say for the fish of the week I wish I had a picture to show you! This is one of the biggest Snook I have ever caught. I have had bigger with my clients but for myself this is one of the biggest. It was a fish that was 41 inches!! Man oh man what a fish the awesome thing is we caught this fish in a tournament this was one of the biggest fish in the tournament. It managed to get us 3rd place 1 point away from 2nd place and just a few from 1st. To say no more it was awesome!

Then we have the Tarpon these fish have been still lingering around some of our upper bay spots and off the beaches but one of the most active spots we have been catching these fish has been up in one of our rivers. These fish have been running a little smaller but a lot of fun. When you catch one of these silver kings on the light tackle they are just as much fun as catching the bigger fish on the heavier tackle, And just as challenging..

This brings us to the big story you are going to think is a fishy story. I have 4 witnesses we had a day of a lifetime! We managed to catch 12 different species! Here we go Snook, Red fish, Trout, Flounder, Snapper, Mackerel, we are half way, Blue fish, Cat fish, Snake fish, Sting ray, Needle fish, Lady fish, and last but certainly not least Tarpon. That right you know what? I did not count right we actually had 13! Just too much fun that day and one that everyone will remember for a long time. come visit www.castawaychartersinc.com for pictures.
