Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
More like it!
Here we go this is how winter should be. Well it came really quick hopefully it won’t be this cold too long but it will get the winter fishing to how it should be. The water temp has dropped about 10 degrees. It’s around 58-62 degrees which is usually where it is around this time of the year. To say no more it’s time to change things up a little. I can say that I think this has be the warmest winter I can remember.
Well it’s time to find those winter fishing holes. A lot of the fish will be in some of the same areas but getting them to feed can sometimes be tricky. Most of the fish that we catch this time of the year are way up in the river or out on the beach around some of the structure. When you are looking for places to fish up in the rivers you want to look for places where the tides move good, around structure like trees in or over the water, docks, bridges and things like that. Most of the fish that we catch this time of the year up in the river are Snook, Red fish, Snapper, and a few others. The Snook bite was a little slow but with this cooler weather it should pick up. Most of this fishing is done with lures but we have been doing good with shrimp as well. Fishing during the winter you have to have a little more patient well that is mostly when you are fishing for Snook.. The cooler weather moves the Red fish around but they will usually still feed good.
When it come to the beach this like the river you look for places that the tide moves good, and there is structure as well. With this fishing we catch a lot of Sheepshead, Red fish, Drum, Trout, and a mixture of all other kinds of fish. This time of the year this is the type fishing I do the most. This is because you are catching very large amounts of fish, not saying that this won’t happen up in the river but it is almost a sure thing when you find the right spot off the beach.
Spring is just around the corner so you should book those trips before I get too busy. Look forward to talking to you soon
