Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
Coming on strong!
What a week of fishing! I know one thing… I’m sure ready for this wind to stop blowing. Although it has been windy, it hasn’t slowed us down on the water to much. The fish have still been biting. Some are biting better then others at times. The show filmed of me fishing is on this Thursday, June 7 2007 at 7pm live. It will air on The Hooked on Fishing show on channel 47. We shot the actual fishing show last week. It will also air on some other times.
I will start it off with the high light of last week - some awesome Red fishing. We had some great numbers and even better size. Like the week before, we have had trouble finding a Red fish small enough to keep. You know it’s a really good one when you get one of these great Red fish pushing 15 plus lbs pulling on the end of your fishing rod. If you get a chance to see the show you will see that we did have a few fish that were in the limit at the top that day, but for the most part these fish have been over 30 inches. What a fight on the light tackle. As the week went on, and we had bad weather move through we had a harder time find or getting the big fish to feed. The biggest change was the wind! It had been blowing out of the East until the storm came through and then it changed to the West.
On to the Snook! If there has been any slack with the Red fish we have made up for it with the Snook. Big fish, little fish, and a lot of fish… the Snook bite has been on. The Snook moved in to many of the places that we have been catching Red fish. I think the full moon has made the fish move around too. We also got quiet a bit of rain as well and that usually pushes more fish out of the river. The water temperature hasn’t gone up to much in the past week either - it is still around 75 degrees. The Snook start biting the most at this water temperature, but usually it is in March not June.
Here come the Trout! Fishing has been good for those people looking for a few fish to bring to the table. Trout is the fish to keep. There is a number of small fish, but if you pick through them you can make a good day. You put some time in Trout fishing and you might just catch that gator Trout that you have been looking for.
Last but not least…. The Tarpon! The wind and weather need to settle down a bit!!! It has been so rough that we have had trouble getting out to catch them. Please visit castawaychartersinc.com for pictures.
