Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Another day!

Off with another great week of fishing. Most of the days are starting really early in the morning that way we're off the water before the sun gets too hot. The way I look at it if you start earlier in the morning and you are off the water earlier in the day unless the fishing is just too good to go home, which has been a problem lately if you want to call that a problem. You get a chance to see the beautiful sun rise as you are cranking on that big fish!

I will start this week off with the Tarpon fishing; we haven’t had a lot of chances to do much fishing for these great silver kings. I can say over the past two weeks I think we fished for the Tarpon three times and saw lots of fish each time. Most of the Tarpon we saw were at the Skyway Bridge but we didn’t have any luck. Man let me tell you there is a lot of fish but last week we had a few pick ups but I can’t say that we put any of these great fish in the air. The fish were showing really good on the slack tide rolling all around us so they were there but just didn’t want to bite. I will say that we did have some luck with the smaller Tarpon that are up in the river. We only got to fish up there one day but with a lot of luck we hooked 4-5 fish. Most of these fish were

20-40 lbs a lot of fun on the lighter tackle.

Trout, the bite is still on we are catching a number of great fish. Some days you have to work for the bite a little bit. Well that is the bite for the big ones. There are still a lot of Trout around but size at times has been a little harder to come by. All it takes is a little moving around and you can catch what you need or want. I can tell you one of the tricks when you start catching a bunch of small fish move just a little bit and use some bigger bait. It seems at times the bigger fish hang just on the outside of the little fish.

Snook!!! Well I can tell you the bite is still on. The tides have been a little different this week so we haven’t had a lot of chances to fish an outing tide because it has been so late in the afternoon. The morning bite on the incoming tide when it’s been a little lower has been almost as good as the outgoing. The biggest thing is during the summertime when you get the higher tides the fish go way up in the trees just about where you can’t catch them. You can but you will have to do a lot more moving around from one spot to another. When the tide is a little lower these fish hang in groups where it’s easier to get a number of fish to bite in one spot with out moving. Another good thing is to have a lot of bait so that you can chum these fish up and keep them biting.
