Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
Seeing is believing and being a Professional Charter Captain it's critical I do everything to protect my eyes from the suns harmful rays. That and being able to locate fish on the flats is paramount. Being on the water puts us at risk from the suns harmful UVA and UVB rays. Quality sunglasses are a must for anglers and non anglers alike. About a year ago my wife Jackie purchased here first pair of Kaenon sunglasses while in Las Vegas at a cool store in Casers Palace called Oculus. Jackie had to have performance and fashion which often don't go hand in hand. Back to Sundays fishing which was another solid outing. I duplicated the locations that were so successful on Saturday and while the results were not the same the bite was still good.
Again fishing the early high tide back in the mangrove islands on Tampa Bays eastern shoreline proved the place to be. Snook, Redfish and Jacks all eagerly chased our offerings. White bait fly lined on a 1/0 Owner hook connected to 3' of fluorocarbon leader was the rigging of the day. Very basic but very deadly. The day ended with over a dozen snook, 3 redfish and several jacks.
On the way back to O'Neill's Marina we stopped on my shark spot, dropped a chum back and in no time had Black Tip sharks working the boat. These 25" sharks are lots of fun to catch as they make good runs and will jump frequently. 30 minutes into the stop a 5' shark swam over to my chum back and ate it! Gone in a split second.
