Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
This is the time of year in Tampa where fishing will really start to change and get really good! The redfish will start schooling up soon, making 20 to 30 fish days not unusual. Patience is key in this fishing because sometimes it will take awhile to find the fish but when you do its game on. Snook will make their transition from the beaches back onto the flats and around the mangroves. The bait will start growing and getting bigger which makes them easier to use. Small bait can work really well but casting it far can be difficult. Tarpon will be thinning out but can still be targeted for the next month and even longer. You may not see the big schools of fish but you will see singles which often times are much more willing to eat.
What I am also excited for is the debut of my new flats boat which i will start fishing with next week. Its much lighter than my previous skiff, allowing me to get to shallower spots and get there faster.
Here are some pictures to get you all excited. Hopefully the weather will get a little better soon and we can get some nice calm sunny days! It has surely been a rough month in the bay area. Don't forget that snook season opens September 1st! It will be the first time in a couple years that you can harvest this delicious game fish.
Tight Lines,
Troy Mainzer
