Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
Greetings all. Captain Steven has been off the water the last 4 days enjoying quality time with the kids in Las Vegas. I promise fishing is entirely more predictable than Las Vegas!
Last night we got right back on the water with a pm snook trip. Great quality and quantity white bait and pinfish were exactly were they were last Friday. Within minutes I had the baits going crazy in the chum slick I set out. Several tosses of the net were all that was needed. If you don't want to go through the mess of chumming you can always buy pinfish at one of the many quality bait shops in the Tampa Bay region. Make sure you have a means to keep the bait aerated until it reaches your live well. Land lovers can purchase aerated buckets which work well especially in the pm when the temperatures re cooler.
As darkness set in the tide was barely moving as it inched towards low tide. I always like moving water anytime I am targeting snook. With not a lot of water flow look for areas that create natural water movement, bridges, and bends in canals especially near the gulf passes.
First stop the snook were stacked on the light and eager to chew. Feisty snook in the 20-24" range eagerly slammed both white baits and pinfish. Next 2 stops we did not see any snook nor did we get a hit. A quick move we were quickly another light loaded with snook and it was game on again.
The tide made no impact to the action as we found the snook last night to be extremely aggressive. Large snook for the most part were no where to be seen though we did lose 2 bruisers.
Quick update on the redfish action from Monday & Tuesday. Fellow Captains I shared the location of the monster reds bite continued. This has been one of the most amazing redfish bites I have ever seen or heard of. Biggest fish Monday was 35"! Noting less than 29" and both days they left the fish chewing.
The scattered thunderstorm season is upon us, be sure to take action timely as the afternoon storms in the Tampa Bay region grow and hit quickly. Take cover and wait out the storms as in most cases they pass as quickly and they appear.
