Spring King Mackerel Season is Here

Capt. Pedro Borrego
April 3, 2016
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well, as the spring finally arrives the king mackerel are starting to show up in the Gulf waters of St Pete Beach, FL. These fish are big, fast and a fun fish to catch on light tackle. Whether you're trolling, drift fishing or just have a flat line out the back of the boat; they are reel screamers. Live bait is the key for bigger kings at a slow speed or you can troll a planner board and spoon for kings and Spanish mackerel at faster speed.

Grouper and snapper have been great with good number on both species for this time of the year. Also cobia will start moving in on the wrecks and cannel marker. We've got our first one already right along with a bunch of kings. Sharks and barracuda will be looking for in easy meal so be ready to lose a few to these guys.
