Spring Snook Fishing is Fantastic

Capt. Trajan Rodriguez
April 9, 2019
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Snook seem to be at every spot we have been hitting for the couple weeks. They are on just about every flat with a good mixture of sand holes and grass. Some redfish are mixed in, but it has been hard to get through the snook to get a red.

Bait has started to move on the flats and should only get thicker by the day. I recommend a 1/4" mesh net when baiting up on the flats to avoid baits getting gilled.

When fishing for the snook and reds, we have been using 25 lb leader and 2/0 circle hooks.

Kingfish are showing up in the shipping channel and residential tarpon are staging up as well.

Got some days open, lets go fishing!

Captain Trajan "Trey" Rodriguez was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. He has been fishing the inshore waters of Tampa Bay for 10 years now. Captain Trey started bass fishing ponds around his house every day after school, but once he caught his first snook, it has been a story ever since. Captain Trey primarily targets snook, redfish, trout, and tarpon. As a full time student at the University of Florida, Captain Trey runs charters in the summer and on his breaks from school.
