Summer time fishing in Tampa Bay!

Capt. TJ Stewart
June 6, 2011
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's that time of year again when fishing on the flats is either really good without much effort or difficult and requires work to land fish. The tide is the most important factor in determining if it you are going to have a good day of fishing or a difficult day of fishing. The best time to fish on the flats is on the high water when the fish are in the trees or low tide when they are pushed off the flats. The in between tides, not to high or to low, make it much tougher to catch fish because they are usually scattered.

Snook have produced the best bite on the flats lately. We caught a number of fish last week that were over 28 inches. A 28 inch snook is great fun to catch on light tackle. Redfish have been mixed in with the snook lately. Most of the redfish we've caught are in the slot range of 20 inches to 27 inches.

Whether the tide is low or high, the tarpon have been biting. The size of the tarpon we've landed has varied day to day. We've caught 20 pounders and we've caught 175 pounders. Over the past week, we had a few fish that were over the 175 pounds. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
