TAMPA BAY BRING US SOME WARM WEATHER!

Capt. TJ Stewart
March 8, 2010
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Winter is almost over! Lately, the cold fronts that have swept through Tampa Bay haven't lasted long. They have brought some pretty chilly temperatures to the area, but they didn't last long. The weather and water temperature is not even close to what it was last year at this time, but don't fret… It is going to warm up soon. The fish just might be adapting to the cold weather and water temperatures because fishing has been really good lately. The fish aren't the only ones that have had to adapt to the cold weather, I have too. For the most part, it has been fun hunting for new areas to fish and trying new ways to catch the fish. Although this winter has been an adventure, I'm looking forward to a change. The first day of spring is right around the corner. I'm ready for some Sunny Florida skies and warm temperatures.

It has been a colder March than years past, but it hasn't stopped the fish from biting. Some fish are even starting to show up in the areas we normally find them this time of year. Once the water temperature rises about 5 degrees, we will be able to put down artificial bait and start fishing with live bait. Some shiners have even started to show up on some of the flats. We are going to start seeing more changes in the near future.

In the meantime, we've still been fishing in the rivers. We've been catching a number of fish on jigs that have been 16 inches to 20 inches. We've caught redfish, snook, trout, and flounder. You never know what you're going to catch when you're fishing with jigs because you cover such a great area of water.

Sheepshead fishing has been awesome. The fish are not only fun to catch, but also good to eat. We caught a 5 plus pounder last week. Man, these fish put up a great fight. Sheepshead fishing will remain good until it warms up. Please visit www.castwaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
