Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
Warmer weather is finally gracing Tampa Bay with its presence, and hopefully, it's here to stay. The weather is not the only thing that has changed; the water temperature has increased too. It is finally over 60 degrees, and the fish are loving it. Of course some days start out a little chilly, but before the day is up, it is warm and the bite is good.
Trout fishing is hot! Once the water temperature increased, trout turned on. We even managed to catch over 20 trout last week during a rain storm. Live bait has not shown up yet, so we've been using jigs to catch trout. Live bait should start showing up on the flats over the next few weeks, but until that happens, jig fishing is the way to go.
Redfish have been moving around, which is to be expected with the warmer weather. Recently, they have been tougher to catch with shrimp than in the past, so we have been using jigs to catch them. Fishing for redfish with jigs can be tough because you have to be super quiet. The boat spooks a lot of them. It helps to fish for redfish in dirty water because they can't see you very well. But… you still have to be very quiet.
On some of the cooler mornings we have started our fishing adventure with sheepshead fishing. While fishing for sheepshead, you can also catch redfish, drum, snapper, flounder, etc… Sheepshead fishing has been the best when the water temperature is cool.
