Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
Summertime is here, and the wind is beginning to calm down a bit. Because the wind has decreased, we have been able to fish more in certain areas that the wind kept us from before. Summertime wind is mainly out of the east in the morning and the west in the afternoon with some accompanying showers. We made some changes last week and had great success.
The redfish frenzy has begun, and should just continue to get better over the next couple of months. We should see some of the best redfishing of the season. Many redfish have been appearing in large schools. It can be hard to catch slot sized redfish
this time of year, but it is no problem catching a bunch of redfish in the 30 plus inch range. You might have to catch 20 or more redfish before catching a few you can keep.
Snook fishing has slowed down a bit due to high tides in the Bay. Snook are harder to catch on high tides because they will go into to the trees. Many fish are showing up in the passes and around the beaches. If you want to catch a big snook, the passes are the best bet this time of year. However, there are still a lot of snook in the Bay as well. They are usually in areas where there is a lot of tidal flow. When the water is lower, snook will usually lay off the edges of the bars.
A few tarpon have showed back up, but we haven't spent much time fishing for them. Hopefully, this will change over the next couple of weeks and we will be able to put some time into tarpon fishing.
We did do a little shark fishing last week and had great success at it. Most of the fish we caught were roughly 2 feet to 3 feet. Larger sharks are around in the Bay. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today.
