Tampa Bay Fall Fishing Report

Capt. Matt Ercoli
October 26, 2012
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tampa Bay Fall Fishing Report

Fishing has been unbelievable. October, in general, is one of our all around best months to fish but this year has really been spectacular. It doesn't matter if we are inshore, on the beach or offshore, the fishing has been tremendous where ever we drop anchor. Honestly I can't remember the last time we have gone 10 minutes without action. It's really nice when fishing is this good; it makes my job a lot more fun.

Tampa Bay fishing inshore has been on fire with all the Snook, Redfish and Trout you want. I had one day last week with two fishermen that literally caught over 100 Snook and Redfish and I bet if we were keeping a close count we had over 100 Snook alone. Most of the Reds are keeper size, a few are little shorts and a few over sized. The Snook are ranging from 15 inches all the way to 32 inches.

The beach is equally on fire and Mackerel fishing is absolutely stupid early in the morning and sometimes right on throughout the day with False Albacore, Shark and Kingfish mixed in. I have had a few nice Cobias as added bonus as well.

Offshore is again just crazy good. My last charter we caught Kingfish to 20 pounds, all the Grouper you want, 5 Cobia, and some hard battling False Albacore. Also a couple of 6 ft Sharks a few Snapper and plenty of Lesser Amber Jacks. Grouper fishing has been so good the last few trips it's a guaranteed bite every time we drop a line. No bait is going to waste offshore right now. The nice thing is we have been catching a lot of nice keeper Red Grouper, my favorite to eat.

Oh, and I almost forgot, there are a few Tarpon out there as well mixed in with the bait balls and Mackerel.

It's a great time to be on the water, the weather is finally cooling off and the fishing is excellent. I hope you have enjoyed my report, have a great time fishing and for some of you that are in the woods this time of year, good luck hunting too.
