Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
The weather here in Tampa Bay is changing, but the fish are still biting. When they are going to bite, where they are going to bite, and what they are going to bite are the questions at hand. We've endured a lot of wind and rain lately, but it hasn't changed the bite much. Fishing in Tampa Bay has been so good that multiple species of fish are biting on any given day.
Yes, it has been windy in Tampa Bay, but we have certainly adapted to it. When it's been windy, we've found a place to get out of the wind and still catch fish. Recently, we've caught some smaller tarpon with light tackle. Catching tarpon on light tackle is just plain fun if you ask me. Hooking a 5lb to 30 lb tarpon on 10lb test produces a great fight. Catching one of these fish on a smaller rod is like catching a 75 lb to 125 lb fish on heavy gear. When the wind blows to hard, all you have to do is look for a shoreline. Move there and you will more than likely find fish that will bite. Many times those areas make for a great fishing spot.
Wind hasn't been the only thing Mother Nature has thrown our way lately; we've also had quite a bit of rain. Like I've always said, rain doesn't really affect the fish because the fish are already wet. Rain or shine, trout are always going to produce a bite. Snook seem to bite well just before a good rain or just after. Redfish can go either way. If you get them biting before it starts raining they will chew all the way through the storm. Right before the rain starts, the pressure drops and it makes the fish bite like crazy. Even big fish that are hard to get to bite will eat really well before a storm.
