Tampa Bay Spring time fishing is almost here!

Capt. TJ Stewart
February 14, 2012
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Its winter, but the beautiful weather we've had lately sure makes it feel like spring. The water temperature is almost 70 degrees, and the fish love it. Live bait can be hard to come by at times, but the good news is that it's definitely in the area. Even better news is that you don't have to worry about catching bait if you're fishing with me because I catch it before you get to my boat. Even if it means that I have to get up at 3am to do so. I'll make it happen!

Lately, we're mostly catching snook, redfish, trout, and flounder. We did make a trip out in the Bay last week and caught some really nice grouper. Of course we had to release them, but it sure was fun to catch them. In the Bay, they put up a great fight. We've definitely had some great action in the Bay. It's great for those that want to keep a few fish. We will probably have some more cold fronts that might slow things down a little, but I think we're past the really cold weather.

The grouper trip I took the last week was more to see if the great silver kings were back. We did hook one really big fish that we couldn't tell what it was before it broke us off. I can't say tarpon are back for definite, but I'm sure they will be before long. Please visit www.castawaycharters.com and book your trip today!
