Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
Live bait is back in Tampa Bay. Over the past two weeks, live bait has made its way back into the Bay; however, it has been tough to catch. As the weather continues to get warmer, we should see more live bait in our area and it should get a bit easier to catch. Finally, winter has come to an end. Hello spring!
Although fishing has been great with live bait, there is a lot of bait that is to large to fish with. It seems as if each time a small bait hits the water, it is FISH ON! Mostly, we've been catching trout and mackerel on live bait, but we did manage to catch a couple of redfish as well. Redfish still want to eat shrimp because the water temperature is still a little cold for their liking.
Some mornings that we recently fished were a little on the cool side, so we had to stick with jigs and shrimp as bait. We haven't had any trouble catching a mess of sheepshead, redfish, or trout on artificial bait. Sheepsheads have moved into the Bay in full force. Lately, most of the sheepsheads we've caught were 5 lbs or more. Most of the redfish have been hanging around structure.
