Trout and waxing tips

Capt. Steven Markovich
June 28, 2009
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sunday winds had abated making for more comfortable and easier time gather bait at 6 am. With the live well full of big white baits we ran over to the flats adjacent to Ft. Desoto. Spotted sea trout averaging 15" eagerly took white baits and pounced on DOA Glo shrimp. The trout pattern is basic deeper, cooler, cleaner water. These trout were very aggressive often chasing and hitting the bait on the surface. Working the deeper potholes was the pattern of the day. On the short 4 hour trip we also caught 2 small redfish. We took 5 minutes to fish the dock we targeted Saturday and quickly scored 3 small grouper 18" each.
Back at O'Neill's Marina it's clean up time. After washing the boat I decided to pull out the Woody Wax Carnauba Wax and treat the hull. With the hull clean and dry I applied the Woody Wax glass coat in small areas 2' at a time. I apply 2 coats then buff to a high gloss. Look at the side of your boat; feel the fiberglass is it shiny and smooth or chalky and rough. My Pathfinder 2200 XL looks and feels like new.

Email the good folks at Woody Wax and tell them Captain Steven sent you and they will send a sample your way. They also make a great boat was and the non skid deck wax is the best. Check them out at WWW.Woody-wax.com .
With water temperatures in the mid 80's its best to fish early or late. Remember the drink plenty of water and lather on the sun block.
