Winter Time Bite has been stellar

Capt. Trajan Rodriguez
December 11, 2019
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Although it may be "winter" here in Tampa, the fish are chewing as if it is still October. Bait can be found on most the flats still and it starting to show up on the markers in the lower areas of the bay.

Snook and redfish will continue to be great at creek mouths and residential docks. Trout will be the really great part of December as we see the big gator trout move back on the flats. These fish are easiest to target with lures like Zman paddle tails on the grass flats where there are mullet. I recommend a 1/8 oz snakelokz hook and 15 lb leader in the winter as the water is clear.

Tripletail bite has been steady off the beaches and make for some of the best table fare around. Limit is now 18" as of last year.

Cobia and tarpon can be seen around areas with warm water discharges such as powerplants. December looks like it will continue strong and head us right into an awesome January bite! Lets get out there!

Captain Trajan "Trey" Rodriguez was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. He has been fishing the inshore waters of Tampa Bay for 10 years now. Captain Trey started bass fishing ponds around his house every day after school, but once he caught his first snook, it has been a story ever since. Captain Trey primarily targets snook, redfish, trout, and tarpon. As a full time student at the University of Florida, Captain Trey runs charters in the summer and on his breaks from school.
