Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
Let's not forget it's still winter as evidenced with this mornings 40 degrees temps combined with a stiff north wind. Remember dressing in layers is key as once the boat gets on plane the wind chill kicks in. I put curtains on my tower last winter and its days like this that you really appreciate them.
The stiff north wind had a huge effect on the tide flushing Tampa Bay to lows I have rarely seen. I was fairly confident I could find the redfish stacked up only to find the 2 areas I wanted to fish were not accessible by boat. I got my binoculars out and watched wade fisherman catching redfish after redfish. It appeared most were tossing soft plastics. I was tempted to get out and make the wet walk but thought better.
I worked several docks looking for some new sheepshead holes with no luck.
About now I was looking for any spot out of the wind. The winds slowly eased and the sun took hold. I eased onto lush grass flats and immediately found trout eager and ready to chase DOA Deadly Combo.
It was one after another small trout 12-14". Its great to see these bumper crop of juvenile fish. I was unable to locate dinner, I had orders for some large filets from my wife.
