Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
It is supposed to be springtime, but it still feels like wintertime. The weather has been very unpredictable lately. It warms up, and the fish start biting like crazy, then it cools back off. We have had a number of cold fronts sweep through the Tampa Bay area lately, which is certainly not the norm for springtime in Florida. Despite the cold weather, fishing has been pretty darn good.
Although our winter was warmer than it normally is, we've had a colder spring than we normally have. On warmer days, fishing has been great in shallow water where the water temperature is warmer. We have caught a lot of fish in 2 feet to 3 feet of water lately. It seems like the bite is the best when the water temperature reaches 62 degrees to 68 degrees. On the cooler days, fishing has been great in the deeper and darker water because the water is warmer.
Hopefully, this is our last cold snap, and the weather will get back to our normal beautiful springtime weather. The tarpon should start showing up in the Tampa Bay area any day now.
