Winter Fishing Good and Plenty

Capt. John Fischbach
February 11, 2016
Tarpon Springs - Saltwater Fishing Report

Captain John Fischbach a very successful and extremely knowledgeable Fishing Guide with Absolute Florida Flats Fishing reports Great year round fishing is improving with Sheepshead, Spotted Sea Trout, Redfish, Ladyfish, Bluefish, Black Drum and even Snook just to name a few species. Thanks to the cold fronts that are now falling down into and passing on through to the south of our West Central Gulf Coast Florida Area giving us an even balance of cool downs and warm ups. They are starting to become milder and more evenly spaced in their arrival intervals also which the fish are used to, making the fish feel less weary to come out of their deep winter haunts and influencing them to bite even stronger as they feel more comfortable moving to "feeding stations" as they are not as lethargic and more active with the milder and less drastic water and air temperature fluctuations between the fronts that we have experienced in the past month. Although the fishing has been great the past 4 weeks, it is improving tremendously, in the way that there is not as much effort by my anglers having to be put forth by working jigs and other artificial baits. Now, the fish are more than happy to exert the energy to charge and eat live bait such as pinfish, live shrimp and even the magical whitebait has even began to become available. While fishing these baits under a cork, free lined or with a small lead split shot in certain scenarios, helps keep the live bait in the ambush areas of these feeding stations. These techniques have been producing explosive, fast, rod bending and drag screaming strikes on my 1/2 and 3/4 day charters. While 1/2 days are long enough for some to get life long lasting memory packed fishing trips accomplished, you cant go wrong getting in another 2 hours on our beautiful gin clear water flats fishing trips this time of year!
