Go away wind

Capt. Jeff Legutki

Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well typical April winds seem to be holding their own, non stop everyday for weeks. The fish are here yet the weather makes it tough to find the right conditions.
Tarpon and snook are around and are feeding, yet the water has been stirred up, giving you short windows to sight fish.
The tarpon have been tough to get to eat. Even with the wind and dirty water, I'm still finding them everyday. Getting them to eat has been like pulling teeth. Friday I fished Jim Brown and we probably had 30 good laid up shots, and only got one to eat. The odds have not been on the anglers side!
Snook fishing has been much more consistent. Snook are in all parts heading outside. I've seen some giant females floating around while tarpon fishing in the middle of the bays. alot of fish are in the passes on current swept points as well as the outer islands. There is still quite a few big black snook in the backcountry but I can see the numbers starting to thin out.
Trout and redfish have taken the backburner at the moment, since everyone is excited for the tarpon season to kick off and that there is less than a week left to keep a linesider. Last week on two different trips, my clients caught some giant trout while casting big plugs for tarpon. I mean big trout like 25 -27 inches, surprising all of us! Red fish have been over the sandy bottoms on the outside on the rising water feeding on the schools of finger mullet.

Ten Thousand Islands Fishing Forecast:

If the wind ever dies, the fishing will be as good as we all want it to be.

Target Species:

Tarpon, snook, and redfish in the skinny water eating flies and artificials.

More Fishing Reports:

Come fish the 10,000 Islands and the Everglades National Park for tarpon, snook, red fish and more with either flyrods or light tackle. All artificial no live bait, geared for two anglers. Fly through the shallows in a Hellsbay Whipray. Fishing with the finest equiptment like Sage fly rods and Bauer reels or St. Croix spin rods and Quantum reels. Sight fishing is my passion! Target the toughest saltwater species in mere inches of water and fool them into eating year round.
