Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fall Update for Naples-10,000 Islands

Oct.13,2005

Well it looks like the "RED TIDE" is finally dispersing and blowing away. Fall is definately here, with the winds starting to dominate out of the NE, and the water temps slowly dropping. Fishing in the middle bays are starting to pick up.

Last Saturday, I had the pleasure to take out Jim Egan and his two sons Jonathan and Nick. Our plan was to find current swept points and drown some shrimp on the bottom or on floats.

After cutting up several shrimp into tiny bits and dispersing them off the points, fishing took off like mass mayhem. Right off the bat we started with a triple header. We got a rat redfish, a small snook, and a black drum. We proceeded to catch fish for two hours off one point. And we caught just about everything from top to bottom, Jacks, snapper, ladyfish, small gag and goliath grouper, snook, reds, black drum, and of course the unwanted catfish. Easy fishing, consistent action from the get go. Perfect fishing for two young enthusiastic boys! At two diferent occasions, we had a red try to eat our orange floats.

Since we had the reds and the snook, we figured we'd try for a slam to finish off the day. So off we went in search for the wily tarpon. We stop in a little creek bend and spot several small tarpon rolling, small guys maybe 10 pounds. We tried for the last hour of the trip and had one take, but the hook pulled as the fish made his first jump. Exciting to say the least!

The full moon is coming up so we should see some great tides for sight fishing. If the rains hold off we should find some clean water and hopefully some willing fish. Until the next time, tight lines and screaming drags to all!!
